The head of state discussed investment cooperation with Marco Mariotti, President of Philip Morris International in the CIS and Central Asia.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Held a Series of Bilateral Meetings

On the sidelines of the meeting of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Head of State held a number of meetings with participants of the event.

During his conversation with Rafael Santana, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec, it was noted that the company has been a reliable partner of Kazakhstan’s railway industry for many years, investing more than $230 million in its development. The American corporation Wabtec is recognized as one of the global leaders in transportation technologies.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan looks forward to further strategic cooperation in the production of a new type of locomotives, the expansion of service centers, the establishment of a competence center, and increased localization of production.

The Head of State discussed investment cooperation issues with Marco Mariotti, President of Philip Morris International for the CIS and Central Asia. The company contributes to sustainable development and the introduction of innovations and is also among the country’s major taxpayers. From 1994 to 2023, Philip Morris paid more than KZT 1.2 trillion in taxes to Kazakhstan’s state budget.

Welcoming David Livingstone, Chief Client Officer of Citi Bank, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the bank has been a trusted partner of Kazakhstan for more than 30 years.

The President noted the importance of Citi Bank’s continued participation in strategic infrastructure projects and stated that the bank’s plans to support small and medium-sized enterprises would contribute to the diversification of Kazakhstan’s real economy.

During the meeting between the Head of State and Gary Nagle, Chief Executive Officer of the Swiss company Glencore, priority areas of cooperation aimed at increasing local content were reviewed, and plans for the further implementation of joint projects in the mining, metallurgical, and energy sectors were discussed.

Glencore is a shareholder of the mining company Kazzinc, whose enterprises operate in the East Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Ulytau regions.
